Fast-Drying vs. Ordinary Rust Preventive Oil: What Is the Difference?

Fast-drying rust preventives form a dense, thin, non-tacky film with strong salt spray resistance. Here is how they differ from ordinary oils.

A fast-drying rust preventive oil forms a dense, strongly bonded protective film on copper, iron and stainless steel that resists scratching, does not interfere with electrical conductivity or welding, and keeps parts from sticking together. Depending on how it is applied, neutral salt spray resistance after treatment can reach 24–72 hours or more.

Performance characteristics

Strong salt spray and rust resistance; scratch-resistant film; no effect on electrical conductivity or welding; good gloss; parts do not stick together; resists fingerprints, discoloration, water and oxidation.

Ease of use

Applied undiluted at ambient temperature, it is simple to use and well suited as a sealing film for rust and salt spray protection.
