Applications

Rust Protection for Automotive Components

Automotive components mix cast iron, plated steel and sintered parts, each with its own surface and process. MOERY grades are matched part by part.

Challenges

What puts metal at risk

Corrosion in this sector rarely has a single cause. These are the conditions we see most often.

Humidity & condensation

Parts sit in warehouses and lineside racks where humidity cycles cause condensation on cold metal.

Export shipping

Weeks of sea freight bring temperature swings and salt-laden air.

Fingerprints & handling

Bare machined surfaces corrode where hands touch them.

Multiple surface types

Cast iron, plated, phosphated and sintered parts each need a different film.

Downstream processes

Films must not interfere with assembly, cleaning or painting.

Porous parts

Sintered parts trap water in micro-pores.

MOERY solutions

Matching the grade to the part

Start with the part and the process; the grade follows.

Part / situationRecommended gradeWhy
Cylinder heads and liners (cast iron)KG-2B / KG-3BFormulated for cast iron; KG-3B does not yellow
Plated, black oxide and phosphated fastenersKG-2C / KG-3CLight oil feel; extends salt-spray life
Sintered gears, bushingsKG-4A / KG-4BPenetrates micro-pores and displaces water
General steel shafts and gearsKG-2 / KG-3General-purpose, 1–2 years
Parts leaving a water-based washerKG-10Displaces water before the film forms
Export shipments with long transit timesKG-83–5 years on precision parts
Typical applications

Typical parts

  • Cylinder heads and liners
  • Engine blocks and castings

Frequently asked questions

Which oil suits cast-iron cylinder heads?

KG-2B (deep brown) or KG-3B (light yellow, non-yellowing) — both are cast-iron grades with strong penetration.

Can plated fasteners be protected without a heavy oily feel?

Yes — KG-2C / KG-3C leave a light oil feel and extend salt-spray life on plated and phosphated parts.

How are sintered parts protected?

KG-4A / KG-4B are low-viscosity oils that enter micro-pores and displace water.

Will the oil affect painting or welding?

Remove the film before painting or welding, and validate the result in your own process.

Can I request samples?

Yes. Use the contact form and tell us the part, the metal and the process.

Protect your components with confidence

Tell us the metal, the process and the protection period you need — a corrosion protection specialist will recommend a grade and arrange samples.
